Sleep City is one of my "orphan songs". It doesn't fit with the forthcoming lockdown album, and it's thematically very different to the material I'm working on for the next record, so here it is! A few summers ago, I committed to rehearsing solo on a weekly basis in an old RAF command bunker - the Crunch. Being the Prince of Procrastination (TM), I did very little rehearsing - I instead mostly played left-handed drums. I did however come up with this song. There aren't many songs that mention milk floats - I was consciously trying to walk the line between humour and pathos here I think. How pretentious of me...
